This reduces both cost and complexity. It can also be easily programmed via LCD to set the RDS parameters. Not suitable for professional setups as integrated digital modulator creates in-band artefacts about -50dBc down. At low powers such as 1-15W you are unlikely to have any kind of problems, just choose a free unused frequency.
