RDS4000+ Micro

Post by sparcnz »

G'Day,

I have a RDS4000+ Micro that was attached to my SE5000 DSP.
Due to an electrical short that toasted the TX board the RDS and Stereo encoder has been sitting around for some time now.
The school that had the FM transmitter have purchased another TX module from a different company, locally based in NZ.
Seeing I have this spare RDS4000+ Micro module sitting here, I am looking at it to fit into the new TX unit. It has a MPX input.
I wish to use this RDS4000+ Micro as a standalone unit.

The RDS4000+ Micro has a number of headers on it.
I have worked out the Power, MPX out and serial speed, however I need to know which pins to use on J14 (which I believe are the USB input connection from a USB - TTL converter).
I also have some spare 1602 (with and without I2C) LCD displays I can use to fit if possible.

I cannot find any information on the PC-Electronics web site, or via Google.

I am looking for any help, so I can use this board before deciding to biff it into the rubbish.

Regards

Kevin.

Hi,

you will need to wire the:
+5V
GND
MPX out (near trimmer P1)
RS232/TTL goes to J14, it goes like this:
1 GND
2 RX
3 TX
4 +5V (probably you won't connec this as USB/TTL is powered from USB)
5 +5V (probably you won't connec this as USB/TTL is powered from USB)

optional 19KHz square TTL from stereo encoder (will work without this)

Hope this helps.
Best regards,

Thank you Marko for the information.
I appear to have everything now, made a USB to TTL data cable.

Q. I don't see any read command to read from the RDS4000+ Micro, so I cannot check the data write went through okay?
Appears it's only a write to setup?

I will not be able to tell until I take the unit to the station and plug it into the MPX of the transmitter.

Regards
Kevin.

Old versions did not have read ability, it is probably write only.
