Loud fan noise and manual needed CYBER MAX FM+ 1000W

Post by radycal »

I just got a brand new CYBER MAX FM+ 1000W with dsp and rds to replace an existing transmitter and have a few questions. Worked flawlessly out of the box but the fan noise is like a jet engine. No squealing just really loud. It's really pushing the air threw though!

So is this normal for a 1kw transmitter?

Is the speed adjustable?

Also, I searched with out results for the manual on the forums. Would appreciate links to the proper manuals and software. The invoice didn't say what versions of DSP and RDS but I'm guessing I got the latest of everything since it was ordered in late May. I would also like to use my laptop to link to it, so drivers or anything else I may need.

Much appreciated!

Take the latest version of the windows control program here, it now has RDS control integrated:

Here is the driver for USB port for XP, W2K, Vista and Windows7:

This lets you use the USB communication with cybermax.

Here is the driver for USB port for XP, Vista and Windows7 that should work in 64 as well:

This manual covers CyberMax FM+ 150W, 300W, 500W and 750W.
The 1000W is almost identical so you can use this manual for now:

Regarding fans, the most critical factor in long life of a transmitter is proper cooling. The only way to have them work for many years is to use large heatsink and high quality ball-bearing high volume fans. We are using a massive heatsink and the best fans we could find. They are quite expensive and move lots of air and of course ball-bearings are loud, but they last for many years without maintenance.
If you check the datasheets of power RF transistors they have MTBF (time between failure) specified at different temperatures, the hotter they get the shorter life they have.

So yes, it is normal for high quality amplifier or transmitter to be loud. As the powers go higher the noise is increased. In 90+% of the cases transmitter is up on the mountain or wherever the transmitter tower is located and the signal is sent wirelessly from studio to the transmitter site. So the transmitter is many Km/miles away from the studio. Or at least in another room entirely (usually air conditioned).

If you want we can send you some cheap plastic silent fans and you can install those instead, it will of course void warranty.

You have DSP/RDS/Exciter everything latest versions, no problems :)
