Adjusting power

Post by miguel »

Hi,

Just got a CybermaxFM (300 W). Nice piece of hardware so far, looks great.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to properly adjust the output power, as it behaves rather weirdly. From what I gather there is a power threshold above which the amplifier kicks in heavily. Since power is adjust in proportion, not absolute value, it's not very easy to get values between very low (5 W or less) and relatively high (+100W).

Anyhow, is a output like, say, 60-70W a healthy value or does that wear the exciter out too much, decreasing lifetime?

Cheers

You will have problem setting as low as 5W, yes. If this is of concern a 15W or 25W transmitter
would have been a better choice for you.

But do not worry, even at 300W the transmitter is not going to "wear out too much", even more so if you run it at as you say 60-70W.

These things are designed for 24/7.

Hi Marko,

I meant we are going to run it at some 60-70W for a few weeks now, and since it took a little time to adjust to that value (easy to set it at 5W, easy to set it at 100W and more, not so easy to set it somewhere between 5 and 100), started wondering if the whole transmitter was most suited to power output above 100W. No worries now :)

Thanks

Don't worry, run it there for as long as you like and have fun :)

Just make sure your SWR is good.
