AM Max III |
|
Hello Marko ... it has been a very long time since we last chatted! I have been watching your site for any details about the AM Max III. I know that you have been working hard on it and would like to ask how you are doing on the project and if you can tell us anything about your progress. Is there anything about the unit, such as specifications or pictures that you might be able to share?

Hi there!
Unfortunately, although I am really working hard on everything this year, even more than usual,
there remains to be heaps of work to be done that just never seems to go away
I can tell you what some of my basic objectives are:
- PLL subsystem will cover entire 0-30MHz range, possibly also 50MHz, RF stages may not be able to handle all in one single model though
- Balanced audio input on board
- No trimmers (all settings digital)
- Improved audio (improved DSP, improved modulator)
- Greatly improved LCD module (many new settings)
- Other small goodies that are still a secret

Excellent! |

Well I am getting ready to put the Max II back on the air soon. I picked up an amplifier that needs a lot less drive than my older one. If I can get 7 to 9 watts of carrier from the Max II, I'll get 250 watts of carrier from the amp with 1 KW peaks. As I remember it can do that sitting down! The amp uses a 3cx800A7 and I think is a good match for the Max II.
BTW, if you cut the sleep down to an hour or two a night .. it might help get the Max III out of planning! I am looking forward to seeing it.
Later .. Larry W8ER

Lots of people are, it seems, I am getting emails
I don't want to push it out before its ready. I want it to be really
the way it should be, and a joy to use to everyone.

I'm not sure yet whether to go the cheaper or more expensive route.
It would probably be best to have a low power universal exciter that'd
cover all bands and than have extra amps to get it to really big powers.
Final decision will be made this week, probably.
Also probably won't be less than 250 euro since it'll be a very complex
machine.

Thanks for the reply, so far sounds good. Would the basic oscillator unit be around the 10-15 watts output? Primarily we are interested in the SW version of the AM TX and would be looking to obtain the Oscillator and a 1-300 watt amp. I'm impressed with the 0-30MHz range, that would be awesome, especially to those who enjoy experimenting on different bands. I'd love to have a mess around with LW as well as MW & SW. I'm looking forward to placing an order along with a TV TX card in the near future. We we're hoping to get on air during February as we'd been let down by another supplier, but on seeing some of the kit on your site are willing to hold on and wait.
I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this kit once it rolls out.

Damn I miss tubes, this avatar of yours makes me drool.
Is there a cheap source of tubes out there, say if I wanted to
buy 100 of small triodes...

I am also interested in the new AM MAX III
Would it be possible to offer LW as well as MW & SW & AM from a selector switch?
What would be super cool is being able to switch between different bands all from the same unit!
Easy to imagine that costing more naturally!

If you read up the thread, Marko has indicated that it will be tunable from 0-30KHz, therefor LW, MW & SW will be tunable in steps.

Here's a site: http://www.rfparts.com/tubetran.html but they are not as cheap as they used to be

I have been working on it this weekend a lot.
I hit brick-wall with two previous designs (turning out way too complex),
but late night this Saturday I finally had that Eureka moment.
The specifications I've set for the unit are pretty high so it was not easy
to make them practical (not too complicated and expensive).
Its not finished, but Im making big progress now.

Wait till you see the price
Just kidding, it won't be that bad, but it will be more than it was
for old model II.
