Post Extending coax Reply with quote
You can extend coax and get good results but there are a few things to consider. First, is the coax of sufficient quality to even bother. For example I would not waste my time adding another 50 feet of RG-58U since the cable has high loss to begin with. Second is you must choose a good quality connector to join the cables together. Many people use the SO-239 but the "N" type connector is much better for use in the middle of cable runs. This is because the "N" connector is specifically designed to maintain 50 ohm impedance trough the connector. This makes the splice in the cable appear to be invisible to the RF power.
