AM antenna - Carrier current matching coupler

Post by OgreVorbis »

Now that you are selling your AM transmitter, I think it would be nice if you could offer a carrier current coupler. This is a matching device that allows you to couple the AM signal into power lines. This used to be a very popular way of broadcasting back in the day. The reason I think it is a good idea is because the options for AM antennas are pretty limited. You can build a huge 1/4 antenna and get good performance, but these are very large and hard to build. The only other options are a shortened loaded vertical or an isotron and both of these have very bad performance.

The carrier current coupler would allow for a much greater range - given that you are near the power lines. Most people listen to AM in their cars and driving down the road next to the power lines, they would easily receive the station.

Please consider this.
