FM Transmitter Link

Post by dave0123 »

Hi There,

I have just signed up to the forum and was wondering if someone could help me.

I was wondering with setting up a studio to transmitter link that you could use a VFO transmitter (low power example 5 watts) i idea was to tune the trimmer capacitor to the end of the dial 107.9 108.0 if you kept tuning very slightly would this go above 108? to say 108.2 or 108.5

I understand you would have to get a radio receiver which is no problem but would the above idea work?

Such a transmitter is not stable enough, frequency could easily change.

Just above 108MHz is air traffic, this is one place where you really don't want to end up.

And a regular receiver is very likely to leak some of the stereo pilot which
could produce a beat tone with the transmitter's own stereo pilot.
Nasty.

What about using a PLL then? at the other end of the band just below 87.5

Although you said the VFO is not stable and the other problems could it actully be tuned above 108 though?

It can be done, of course, but whether it makes sense and
what the performance will be is a big question.

I do not recommend it.

MAX PRO 3000+ can be tuned down to 76MHz. And it can be even modified for 50MHz band.

So could easily be used for linking - do you sell any receivers at 50mhz or around the 76 mhz
