What should I purchase...a new challenge
Okay,
I am looking to set up a radio station in Hong Kong where I now live. I live in a block of flats 400m away from a 227m-tall apartment building, on the top of which I would like to broadcast from. However, I am unsure how to do so. I could place an antenna and possibly other equipment on the roof of the building, but I would like to be able to choose what to play from my pc at home. I would like to have as much equipment at home, so it is safe and away from the elements. Preferably all I would leave on the roof is an antenna, the wires to power it, and anything else necessary. But how do I do this? (if it is indeed possible). I would appreciate any help greatly
Chris
Another thing. I would like to broadcast around 10-20 km, and have it played through my pc. Bearing in mind cheapness and range, would I do better to buy:
1. CYBERMAXMICRO 2+ and 40W FM amplifier with FET technology : ( 350 + 299= 649 euro)
or
2. 15W FM transmitter package : (669 euro)
3. Any other options. I am uncertain about kits as this is my first station. (I can solder etc.)
Thanks so much for any help,
Chris

Personally, I would go for stand-alone solution Cybermax FM 15W series.
I'd be using it to power stronger amp later as I gained experience.
I'd make antenna myself to save a dime, however if you don't have the
expertise or swr meter a Comet or similar is a good starting choice.

thanks,
but do you know any way I could just have the transmitter on the top of the appartment block? I don't want to leave my transmitter up there to the elements, and as well as that would have to leave my laptop there(which i would never do). how do other stations do it where they broadcast in a different place to their studio?

Do you live in the same building? If so, have transmitter in your appartment and connect antenna
via coaxial cable.
If you're living elsewhere, use a wireless studio-transmitter link.

Hello,
If you want to transmit to an antenna who is located in another building our location, you need anyhow a separate link transmitter and a receiver.
This could be solved by:
1.the wireless audiolink http://www.pcs-electronics.com/microwav ... p-332.html, on the receiver site you need the power transmitter and antenna
2. ADSL link excample: stream from your pc audio to the receiver site from pc to pc, on the receiver site you need an pc with adsl and the transmitter with antenna.
In other words: in all situations of your wish, to transmit via a remote location, you need always on the receiver site the final transmitterand antenna.

Nearly there...
So if I bought :
CYBERMAXFM+ 15W FM transmitter
Microwave audio link
Antenna
Coaxial cable
I would have all the equipment I needed to make this happen. Well?

You will need studio equipment, a PC will do for a start, in combination with some nice
software, some as SAM broadcasting or jazler. You can download demo version of this
program.

I would go for:
1. the 15 w transmitter package (15W FM TX package - Comet antenna) on the antenna location
2. Microwave audio link ( on the studio and link to Antenna location) Be aware, you need the same altitude with this link)
3. Pc with Sam Broadcaster ( on the studio site)
Be aware Use of this type of equipment is at your own Responsibility
A license may be required for the operation of a radio transmitter.
Success...
And the
Yep, and SAM (software) is listed here:

Yes, of course, same altitude is not a requirement.
Optical visibility is a requirement at 10GHz.
