Help combining FM Xmtr, RDS, Stereo encoder & Case

Post by MagicLightShow »

Hopefully some knowledgeable user or someone at PCS will have a comment about this.

We are looking to put together an FM system that includes a stereo encoder and RDS in a case. From what I can determine from the PCS shopping cart, these items below should be able to interface with each other and fit in the rack case. Comments please...

Max Pro 4+ transmitter board
SE4000 DSP+ stereo encoder board
RDS Max 4000+ daughter board
Professional 1H 19-inch rack

Anything I am overlooking?
Thanks to all

Correction, you want:

MAX PRO 3+ instead of MAX PRO 4
Why: It is better than MAX PRO 4 and MAX PRO 4 is not available any more at that.
Differences? Many, all in favor of MAX PRO 3+. I can see how people get confused
by 4 being worse model than 3, we'll consider that for all future products and make
better model the one with higher number.

Don't forget LCD module for MAX PRO 3+.
You don't need to buy LCD module for SE4000 (since you will control it with MAX PRO 3).

Note various accessories for 1H 19" rack, M3 screws and distancers.

The rest is good, but I'd also take this if I were you:
http://www.pcs-electronics.com/rds-max-4000-p-1141.html
IO board with USB interface and BNC connectors

This plugs into RDS daughter board and provides USB interface
for the RDS plus BNC breakout for MPXin, MPXout and 19KHz
signals. Plus all holes fit into the 1H rack perfectly.
If you don't get this you have to fight with connecting D9 COM port
connector to the enclosure somehow (can be tricky).

Whatever you decide have fun putting it all together and if you get lost
email or post here and we'll work with you.
Best regards,

WOW! That's just the response I was wishing to get.
That really clears things up for me, and I am sure I could not have come to this conclusion on my own. There are so many products and options that it is a little confusing... even for an engineer like myself.

I hope this thread helps other buyers.
Special thanks to mention the USB interface. I really don't want to use RS-232. For all practical purposes, RS-232 is dead from new designs.

Again, thanks for the fabulous info.

Indeed, it may be a good idea to put this all together in a pdf file as a guide.
