Output power of PCI MAX 2006

Post by Kostyusha »

I have measured output power my PCI MAX 2006 by wattmeter Telewave 44A. I could see a maximum only 0.5 W. Transmitter is being used as separate unit with DC power supply 12 V 20 A. Measuring have been done with equivalent load 50 ohm. Anybody can explain this strange result?

That's not really strange you just don't seem to have enough volts powering it. I'm not sure what its limit is, but I would think it can go higher.

Technical specifications of PCI MAX 2006 tell about 15 V maximum. I have one's doubts that output power will increase till 1W from addition 3 volts powering. But I'll test it of course. Did anybody measure output power PCI MAX?

installed hardware AND external power supply?

Post by addy »

Hello,
I got my PCIMAX Pro 2006+ (1W) a few days ago. I installed it with the 2005 driver (2006 doesn't work). My problem is, that the range is very bad (~ 50-100 meter) I've read a lot of posts in the forum about external power supply for full output power.
Now my question: Can I simply connect stabile 12V although the card is installed in the computer? I'm afraid of disturbing my card or computer..

excuse my english ;)

regards, addy

Yep, that is exactly what you must do. 12V should be enough.

The PCI MAX 2006+ card is designed to limit output power when there is no external power supply.
There is a tiny switch inside which engages full power when external power supply is detected.

This was done to increase Signal/Noise ratio and protect PCI bus from excessive power draw.
It was done for your own good, in short.

yeah, very tricky ;)

okay, another question, what's the whole output power without external power supply? (My multimeter is defective ;) )
