NO power out on MAX III

Post by RadioMan »

Hi folks. Bought a max 3 about a month or so ago to replace my Max II. I looked for the manual on this site but was unable to find it; everythinig is now Max 3+ and Max 4.

No power out. I can hear it in my place but that's about it.

What should I do to check the condition of the transistor (final output). Should it be "open" between the collecter & base or shorted between the base & emitter(and so on). I felt the componants and nothing got even warm after 5-10 minutes

I have a new 15v power supply running the max 3 and an SE 4+ encoder, and I checked the output of the power supply before going on-line with the gear. It shows 15.23v so I couldn't have fried the final when I powered up (could I?). The SE4+ is working great (I'm using it with the old max II I already have). At the risk of sounding stupid, which is the transistor for the final out? I assume that it is the one near the center of the board.

My entire setup is: 15v power supply, SE4+, Max 3 exciter, 50' RG-8 cable, 1/4 wave ground plane mounted 28'.

If anyone has the max III and had or has a similar problem let me know. And Marko- if you see this let me know where I can find the manual again.

Any ideas-let me know!

Is this unit controlled via LCD or potentiometer?

Is the error LED turned on or not?

Email me and I'll send you the manual. Should be on the cd as well.

This is the old III model, not the new 3+?

I'm not entirely sure so it'd be best, if you send me a photo via email.

If this is the old model, turn the temp protection trimmer until the error/swr
led goes off. That LED signals that the protection is turning the output stage
off.

sorry, I have no way to email a photo at present. Please explain in more detail about error/protection LED? I have no manual and no disc came with my purchase. If you remember I bought the Max 3, SE4+, and 15v/3amp power supply at the same time.

I found the correct trimmer for temp protection. There is a very small window while sweeping from one end to the other that turns the red "error" LED out. Is that normal. Also, after a few hours it shuts down again completly. I have it mounted in a case and a fan blowing across the final.

BTW-Last time I looked for the MAX 3 manual, I couldn't find it on this site.

Email me directly. You have previous version and the link for that one is gone.

It was supposed to be on the CD as well.
