question about using caps

Post by woodro »

hi guys, can someone shed some light on the subject of using capacitors within a transmitter enclosure for me. I have noticed quite a few people use caps on their rca audio cables usually between the braid on the rca cable and the enclosure panel where an rca connector is fastened. What are the values and capacitor type that should be used. I've been told once that you do not use electrolitic type here but rather the flat brown disk type with no polarity.

I've seen somewhere that you should use 2 different values in parallel for this application but i'm not sure. Are there any other areas inside a transmitter enclosure that using capacitors is a benefit? I have used electro type on fan power cables to remove fan noise but could really use some guidance on other possible uses.

thanks in advance! :)

forgot to mention that a guy at work told me to use .01 brown flat disk type caps between the braid and the metal enclosure so i picked some up. Have not put them in yet as i would appreciate feedback here first

I don't see any benefit in doing so.

Our units do not benefit from this, not sure about others.

If RCA sockets are isolated it may be better to leave them isolated.

Even at RF.
