How to convert stereo to mono?

Post by Antler »

I am interested in the AM Max

What I intend to do is stream media from my computer which is in stereo to the AM max. In the past I have done this in a crude sort of way... How would a sound engineer accurately convert stereo to Mono so as to get the full program material rather than just one channel or the other?

:D Simple my friend...Go down to Radio Shack and get a Stereo-to-Mono Audio Adapter. Mono phono to 1/8" stereo phone jack.

P/N 274-378....$3.99

Stereo to mono

Post by pcs »

Hello there!

There is a better way, do not tie both channels directly but rather via
a resistor, say two 220 ohm resistors for AM MAX. This depends on audio
input impedance of the transmitter. Too high of resistance here would
canse too much signal attenuation, if your transmitter has low resistance inputs.

It should also be possible with software, given a suitable program,
but I can't name any right now. Maybe MLB4 supports this.

Mono from pc

Hi.. The best way to get mono from your computer is to open your controlpanel, and klick on the sound icon. This depends of witch soundcard you have, but I am sure you find in the meny of speakers, mono speaker.
If you use Winamp, you can chose mono in the DSP, or get you a DSP plugin for mono. There you go.....
