if you use an old cd audio - to sound card plug, you can use 3 of the wires that are in a row, making the center one of the 3 the common. Now take the other outside 2 wires and put them on a spdt microswitch. Now you have the ability to switch power on the fly! I drilled a small hole in one of the 5 1/4 drive bay blanks and mounted it in place. With that setup I can send FM to my home area, and when I need, flip up the power.

BTW, we had a BIGGG 4th of july party here, and pre-produced all of the party/fireworks show music with OTS jukebox. We then had the partygoers just bring a boombox with them, and so there was no really loud, booming so-that-you-can't-hear music. We had more compliments on the quality of the audio! Some thought that it was a commercial station.

PCI MAX Ultra Jumper

Post by iRADIO LA »

We rcv'd the PCI MAX Ultra and did not come with any paper work, instructions, etc. As I can see from the forum if the jumper is in then it is high power. Well is the jumper the resistor in 56?

Thank you in advance

Ultra

Post by iRADIO LA »

I puchased off eBAY. He sad he is a distributor for you. Purchased the Ultra and the 15w booster. Both items look brand new.

The booster only puts out around 7 watts. P1 is max. Is there any other way to get the power up?

We were told this unit can give 15-20watts. By the way this is not the kit version. It has a nice little fan and everything. Also how does the SWR led work? If it is high the light comes on? So far it has not come on so we're not sure.

We should be getting the Comet antenna today so we are going to see if this improves.

3db gain omni ant
50A heliax
15 watts

should get us more than 150+ feet.. Right now that is where we are standing.

Thank you for any assistance

7W is good for about a mile at least, with normal antenna.

What kind of power supply are you using? Increase supply
voltage a bit and you'll have more power. Just don't go over 15V.

It is a very large 13.8v power supply. Probably around 300 amps. We should be getting full power. Like I said , we should be getting the new antenna today, so we will see if the power goes up.

How does it go up to 20 watts? What is the Ultras max output, and what is the max input to the booster?

The amps have absolutely nothing to do with it. It might
as well be 10000000000 amps. Device only takes what it can
at given voltage in accordance with its impedance.

Ohms law.

With my Ultra card I can't go more than about 2 watts (with the older 5w booster). It's like it ever had enough power to drive the booster. Now with the PCI Max 2004 at full power, then it's enough to get about 6 watts (16 watts with the 15w booster). I hope I'm making sense. I'm just explaining that my Ultra card never drove the boosters enough; to weak.

Now for a scare, my 15w booster just shut off today! After some tightening of screws, it works now. Odd...

The early models did not have a fan, I recommend that you
put a small 40x40mm fan in there to blow on the final.

The ultra had external power supply connector, you should use
that to get a bit more power.

yes, we are using an ext. power supply for the Ultra. The 15W booster has the fan built in. This is supposed to be brand new.

From the other email about transmitters and power.

This sytem a sponsor bought. I told him that we wanted a stand alone unit, but he thought this was good enough (cheaper). Well I can't turn anything down so I accepted it.

We have no budget right now so we have to accept what ever we can get, good or bad. We'll try and make it work.

Even though we can transmit up to 40 miles we are realistically looking at 10 miles.

We have the new antenna up but we need to get one more adaptor for the heliax. so tomorrow we should be able to run a test and see what we have then.

Thank you for the help and fast replies. I am sure I will be talking to you again.

Cheers
