I'm currently planning to make a a couple of wireless speakers to use around the house.
The speakers wil have built-in power supply, amplifier CPU and radio receiver.
I got the Powersupply, Amp and CPU part covered, but I'm not so sure about the radio receiver.
I'm thinking the receiver should be controlled by the CPU, so a digitally controlled PLL chip might do the trick.
The idea is that each speaker has some sort of control panel ( 7seg LED display and a pair of buttons ) where the signal source is selected.
I think 7 to 10 different channels would be enough.
The idea is to have at least two base stations, where one is connected to the TV-set (5.1 surround output) and one to the computer (stereo) and then be able to select the source for each speaker.
The really tricky bit is the base station for the surround signal.
I've been thinking about using 3 stereo transmitters, each tuned to a different frequency, but I think the transmitters could interfere with eachoter but I'm not sure.
Could this be done at all?

They won't interfere if you use them at frequencies sufficiently
separated and make sure the transmitters are using just as much
power as needed, nothing more. And of course provide good shielding
between them and place antennas as far from eachother as possible.

But for the receiver part.. I can't seem to find any "single chip" receivers that has a digitally controlled tuner.
The TDA7000 keeps popping up various places on the net, and a search for "FM PLL" on www.datasheetarchive.com came up with a bunch of various circuits, including some SANYO parts (LA3430) but I don't understand how to use these parts.
What I need is a (preferably) one-chip FM receiver that can be tuned from a microprocessor.
Any suggestions?

This might be bigger than you can handle. Its no small feat.

It's just a thought...
But these Sanyo-chips (LA3401 and LA3450)..
What are they used for?
Is it a complete stereo FM receier, or does it need more active components to work (not counting audio-out amplifier)?
I have also come across a sort of diode wich changes capasity according to voltage... Any comments on this?

The fact that you need to ask these questions tells me that this
is probably too big of a problem for you.
No, you can not use multiplexing for this (tda...).
Look for the datasheets of the other chips.
