Create FM Transmitter from FM Modulator??

Post by Fission7x »

Is there any way to turn an FM modulator into an FM transmitter?
I have a PLL tuned FM modulator I used for a short time in my truck.
It has 12v power and stereo audio inputs and a car antenna socket as an
output. I was wondering if there was a way to hook up a small amp
(<1 watt) and some sort of antenna to create a low power FM transmitter
to broadcast through the house and yard. Any ideas?

These things use BA chip, which produces nasty spurs
in the audio spectrum. They may sound good, but look at it on
a spectrum analyzer and you'll see lots of spurs close to the carrier.

This is not something you can filter out as it is very close to the carrier.

This makes it very dangerous to amplify any of these devices, you will
likely radiate into close-by channels and you may get in trouble.

Those chips were designed for immediate local area use (a few meters)
and are perfect for that purpose, but NOT FOR BROADCASTING!

You have been warned!
