5/8 or dipole antenna? |
|
Hello!
I have a 25W FM transmitter. I would like to run a low-budget radio but I'm not sure about what antenna should I buy.
I would like to cover a crowded city with high buildings. The antena will be mounted about 15 meters above the street level , and there're parts of the city that are higher and lower.
What should I buy?
I'm thinking about the Comet 5/8 or the Sirio SD-FM dipole.
Thanks!

It is a difficult terrain. I would say get 1000W tx and a 4-bay circular dipoles antenna,
but you'd probably say I'm crazy.
For a low-budget station either of the options you suggested should be ok.
Comet, dipole or exterminator will all work. Of course the more dipoles the more range.

OK!
And between a 5/8 antenna and a stacked dipole (2 dipoles) wich is better?
Thanks!

2 dipoles I'd say.

Thanks!
So, for stacking two dipoles I'll have to get a power divider. In the PCS shop there's the "750W 2-way coaxial splitter (3xN connectors) ".
What does it include? Could you post a real photo of it (as on the web page it looks only like a cable). ??
Does it include tha cables?
Ii's good quality for a 24/7 transmission?
And another question, is the PCS FM dipole (http://www.pcs-electronics.com/dipole-871941000w-p-918.html) the Sirio SD-FM dipole??
THANKS!!!

I don't have a nice photo, but it is cable + connectors and it is good quality.
It is good quality for 23h and 59 minutes.
But if you transmit one more minute it explodes
Of course I am kidding here, it will handle 24/7.
If you want even better specs get the 1KW or 2KW combiner.
Yes, they are the dipole you mentioned.

hahahaha
OK!
But does the splitter include the cable to feed each dipole with the correct signal?
And where in the pole do I have to put the splitter? Between the 2 dipoles? How?
Thanks again.

There is enough cable to connect two dipoles + some extra.
The combiner is obviously placed in the middle.
The distance between dipoles should be about 2.6 meters.
Anyway, if you want to extend the cables you can use regular 50 ohm coaxial
cable, make sure both (all of using 4-way) branches are extended for the same length,
this is the easiest way to keep things in phase.

Thanks.
But how does the splitter look like? How do I have to attach it at the pole?
Does the splitter have to be tuned at the TX frequency? (107.7) ??
Do you still have the 10GHz link system?
http://www.rf-kits.com/es/products.php?sub=radio_links
I may have to do a studio-to-transmitter link. In the best case, if there's Wi-Fi coverage I can do a internet streaming link, but if not...

The splitter looks like several meters of coax plus connectors on the ends.
That link is no longer available.
