Description

High gain long range DX setup for receiving far-away faint FM radio stations

One of our customers has suggested a package for DX SWL radio enthusiasts. These people are hunting for far-away FM radio stations sometimes thousands of miles away. This is possible due to special atmospheric conditions, usually in the summer, and very high gain antenna systems. Such a system consists from 1-4 directional yagi/log-periodic antennas. This package is for receivers only! It is not practical for transmitting since the signal is only travelling into one general direction wherever the antenna system is pointed. For this same reason it is recommended that you use antenna rotator as well so that you can turn into a direction of choice at any given time.

What is included:
– 1, 2 or 4 yagi/log-periodic antennas
– 20dB RF amplifier for FM band with adjustable gain
– a total of 20m of suitable coaxial cable (3m + 17m) in two pieces since amplifier is in the middle.
– all connectors

How to get the most out of this system:
– Use rotator so that you can turn the antenna where you want it. Rotator is not included.
– Place RF amplifier as close to the antenna as possible, the amplifier is most effective for combating coaxial cable losses and for receivers with poor sensitivity
– 2 yagis have 3dB gain over 1 single antenna, 4 yagis have 6dB gain over single yagi. The more the better. If you are feeling crazy ask for 8 🙂

– In times of favorable atmospheric conditions it is not uncommon to hear stations thousands of km far away. Unless you speak many languages it is recommended that your receiver should have RDS so you can identify the station.
– Get a decent radio tuner
