AM Radio

Post by STeve »

Probably off topic..
but
how does AM radio work??
is it at its most basic form just a massive amplifier hooked up to an antenna??
The reason I ask..I have just completed buliding a subwoofer from an old 40W car amp and a PC power supply.. turned it on and I pick up 729kHz (a local Am station) pretty much crystal clear.
there is no receiver curcuit in the amp, its purely an amp only.
I assume my 5 m signal cable from the DVD is acting as an antenna..
Is this possible?

power supply...

Your power supply is a switcher, probably operating at about 100KHz.
You are hearing this at the 7th harmonic at around 729KHZ.
