Listener's Audio Quality Report

A listener to a broadcast of mine recently wrote in with the following report: ---------- ... "little fading with great audio. I'm using an SE-3 with my reciever's bandwidth set at 8.8khz and the bass is fantastic. It isn't muddy at all and it's tight. The speaking portions of the show reminds ...

Just performed the mods on dual band model

I just replaced the diode and added the Toroid on the dual band AM Max II and it's sounding great. It's the best sound and modulation I've gotten out of one of these yet...

AM MAX II MODS

I replaced the diode, put in a nice big 100uh 4.4A toroid, and took out the extra caps in my AM MAX II for 530-1710 and fired it up. For some reason the power level seems to ramp up for at least a minute or two before slowly stabilizing. Initial sound impressions are pretty good. It seems to have a ...

Modulation tests with the new diode

I did some testing using an old EICO modulation meter and an oscilloscope and went backand forth between the original LED and the 1n4148. For some reason I couldn't get the scope to behave enough to give accurate modulation numbers but I was able to easily bury the needle on the modulation meter whi...

Lowest possible output

In general testing I found that going below about 15 volts seemed to introduce problems. The signal seemed to clip hard with bass notes. At 16 volts you get around a 3 watt carrier and it is very clean.

SGC SG-500

I thought it required about 50 watts as well but testing proved otherwise. The gain of the amplifier seems to be computer controlled and it has the ability to adjust the gain it delivers depending on the input power. I was shocked to find it delivered almost 15 db of gain.

Amplifier with AM Max II

I have used an SGC SG-500 amplifier which provides a 200 watt carrier from the AM Max II using the 19 volt power supply with about 7 watts output. With modulation peaks I recorded an output of over 500 watts. It sounded excellent.

My unit was modified for 6000 - 7000 khz

AM MAX II

After playing around with the unit and tweaking the settings to my preferences I can only say the audio is wonderful! The sound is ultra clean. At first I thought the sound might not have enough beef to it. That is, until I heard an off-air recording of the transmitter. The sound was very beefy and ...

I've been out of town for a couple weeks but I'm back and will be posting more information soon including a voltage verus output chart and some basic modulation testing results. I have found that the transmitter will easily modulate 100% + on a typical modulation meter. Carrier and modulation levels...

Received my new AM Max II

I just received my AM MAX II modified for the 6000-7000 range. I ordered the 19 volt power supply from PCS as well. I've done very little testing so far but first impressions include: Very clean layout and well designed appearance, Very clean modulation and appears to easily modulate 100% (no measur...
