If you attempt to use a TV antenna your signal will jump all over the band, your swr will go through the roof and your rig will eventually blow its main output transistor.
Not to mention your effective range will be about 2foots worth of harmonics

I think this depends on which area I wish to cover and where the site is. If the site is outside a city and you wish to cover the city a yagi could be preferable as well as 5/8 can be quite sufficient if you are within the area you wish to cover. Marek As i mention it is obviously subjective, when ...

What coax did you use to make the kite light enough to lift off the ground? it certainly wont have been RG8 or 213, low loss stuff weights a tonne!!!  if you used 58 you probably lost 50% power through the coax so height gained would have been severely comprimised by RF power lost i'd ima...
Re: antennas
Not all antennas need to be tuned to frequency, some are "no tune" these are usually folded dipoles.doggywood wrote:do you have to tune all antennas when switching frequencies?

Tune it to 88 .1 wont make any discernable difference, its a matter of millimetres (if that!) by the time you have hauled the aerial up and its been buffetted by the wind and covered in rain and whatever other weather elements are thrown at it,all your precise accururate measurements will count larg...

Some interesting results from the Max Pro
I have obtained some interesting results when testing the max pro when accompaning it with a veronica amplifier. As some of you may know veronica amplifiers have a green led which indicates output strength, this becomes brighter in accordance to how much power is being fed through the amp and into t...

5/8ths antenna radial elements lowering radiation pattern?
I am interested to know if there no proportional value for the radials length with respect to the operating frequency or are the radials cut to a nominal length? According to a link posted by 'Fleeting Glimpse' the duty of these radials is to lower the angle of reflections so you dont waste too much...

Re: re: help please
Step 2. The range will depend on how high you get your antenna and how clear it is of nearby obstacles. Outside on a chimney pot is ideal, but in aloft would be acceptable but would reduce range a bit. I presume you have read the instructions on how to make an antenna. I wouldn't bother with anythi...
