Glad you guys like the icons. You're right, Davey C, these do look similar to Vista icons. I hadn't seen any screenshots of Vista yet so I looked some up and I can see that Microsoft is going for the shiney look too. The vista interface sure looks a whole lot prettyer than the default Windows XP the...

Custom PCI Max Icon

After reading the previous post about making a t-shirt design, I decided to give it a try (I occasionaly make t-shirt designs at my job). Once I got started, I realized that I was creating some iconic designs so I decided to button-ize them to use instead of the default PCI Max satelite-dish icon. T...

Congrat's on turning 18! Now you can legally smoke, buy a lottery ticket, vote and get drafted Check out this page for an estimate of range. If your using the 15 Watt MAX setup and broadcasting at full power into the comet antenna then your ERP would be about 30 Watts which might get you out about 9...

I'm not sure if you are talking about a full power station or a low power one, AM or FM, commercial or non-commercial, etc. Short answer though is that if you have to ask, you can't afford it. Let's assume you want to start a Low Power FM station (LPFM). You have to broadcast at exactly 100 Watts ER...

I appreciate that PCS Electronics will continue to support the PCI Max cards even if it means paying the microsoft fees. From what I've been hearing about Vista, I will try not to upgrade to it until I absolutely have to and I suspect that others will do the same (although microsoft is already sayin...

Windows Vista and PCI Max Drivers

I'm jumping the gun by quite a bit with this topic but I've been wondering about this ever since I heard about this announcement from microsoft. It seems that 64-bit versions of Windows Vista will not allow unsigned device drivers and, it seems to me, the drivers for our beloved PCI Max cards are un...

I recommend the Chaintech AV710. It has a VIA Envy24 chip and if you use the VIA drivers (NOT the crappy drivers that Chaintech includes with the card) you can get a true 24-bit, 192 kHz output. It sounds good! What's even better is that you can find it for about US$25. (I hope this doesn't count as...

Well, I removed the card from my computer and plugged the stereo cable into the back of the pci max and used my ohm meter to test it. I tested between each 'band' (ground, left and right) on the free end of the cable and the solder points under the jack on the pc board. Each channel had a good conne...

PCI Max 2006+ Audio problem

I received my PCI MAX 2006+ in the mail yesterday after having it take forever in customs (thanks Peter for the help!). Of course, our electricity was off when it arrived and I had to wait for it to come back on before I could install the card, it was a long couple of hours! I was able to get the ca...

LCD Module with PCI MAX 2006+

I purchased a Max Pro I not too long ago (I think it was earlier this year). While looking at the LCD module manual for the PCI Max 2006+, I noticed that the LCD looked very similar to the one on my Max Pro I. I haven't opened up the enclosure to check the parts so I thought I'd ask here. Will the L...

Whether or not you can get away with broadcasting that much power in a populated area can depend on a lot of things. If you interfere with any commercial stations, you will get caught. With more power, your signal gets out farther so if you are broadcasting on an open frequency, you need to make sur...

The new PCI Max looks great! It looks like there is no trimmer for power adjustment on the board though there is a place for one, is that right or am I not seeing another trimmer somewhere else? I like the LED in the back plate and, as minor and rediculous as it is, I like that there is a blue heats...

Stereo Signal and Distance

Someone had asked me a while ago if transmitting a stereo signal would require more power. I assumed it wouldn't (significantly) because I figured that an MPX signal would just modulate the carrier more. However, I recently came across this article which seems to indicate that transmitting in stereo...
