Designed for FM radio transmitters, This amplifier incorporates microstrip technology and a pair of 300W BLF278 transistors.
There is a competition in the world of pallet amplifiers to offer the smallest possible amplifier. We decided not to compete for this prize at this power level. This is the only dual push-pull mosfet pallet amp with a 5 inch width. This layout is thermally superior to all of those 4 inch wide x 10 inch long PA's on the market.
We have received many requests for a reliable 750W FM pallet amp. This PA can be driven beyond 700W; however, the mosfets are rated at 300 watts each so operation above 600W is not recommended. Unfortunately all of those vendors who are selling PA's with dual 300W mosfets (SD2932, MRF151G, BLF278) call their amps "750W PA" or even "800W PA". This advertising is misleading. You can't run at these power levels with any expectation of long term relability... and lets not forget on those 4 inch wide pallets heat becomes a serious problem.
If one really wants to run at 750 watts then try our SD2942 version of this PA. The SD2942's are rated at 350W each and 750W can be obtained by overdriving the mosfets a little but its not as bad as driving 300W mosfets to the same level. Taking a 300W mosfet to 375W places too much stress on the device.
This design is based on our highly successful 300W class B BLF278 pallet. More than 1000 pieces have been sold since 2003. We have many satisfied customers in more than 20 countries.
Bias disable pads facilitate integration into amplifier systems that employ automatic VSWR protection. Taking these pads to ground will shut down the amplifier. This pallet has 2 +48V pads and 2 bias disable pads. The Mosfets are DC isolated from each other.
Each pallet amplifier we sell is designed and tested with HP 8753 vector network analyzers.
Our amplifier products use ATC/AVX microwave chip caps for high reliability.
This pallet is optimized for 48 volt operation. Using a lower voltage will result in lower efficiency and output power; however, 28 volt operation is preferred by some. Low voltage operation will extend the MTBF of the transistors. The pallet can produce 300 watts out from a 28 to 32V supply with 6 watts of drive.
