Zoom on ISA max modulation

Post by Bazz »

Hi,

I have been using the ISA max for half a year now, working fine. A week ago a zoom sound came in the modulation. It is not a common 50Hz zoom, more like a fan sound. I've tried to cover the card from any air streams in my PC, without succes. The zoom appears after aprox 10 minutes, the first 10 minutes the sound is perfect. Does anybody have an idea what it could be?

Using no external power supply, zoom appears to decrease when power is set to a low value. At 100% the zoom becomes louder.

That's the ancient ISA MAX card for ISA bus?

Try to move your antenna around a bit and see if that has any
effect.

Does it happen at any frequency?

No effect

Both suggestions have no effect. Changing the frequency does not affect the zoom and moving the antenna does not have an affect either. Nothing has been changed in the harware configuration, the zoom started to come in suddenly. Do you have any other suggestions?

And yes

This is the ISA MAX, but it is not ancient, it works perfect except for the zoom. As long as the PCI MAX does not have 1W power output I cannot use it.

I call it ancient since its been many years since we stopped
selling these.

Are you using external power supply?

It doesn't operate with an external power supply. Do you think the computer's power supply can cause interference after a while? I have tried another grafics card to see if this stops the interference. The experiment still continues...so far so good.

About the ISA slot, it is an old pc, AMD K6 200 MHz Win98 and with 3 ISA slots.

As far as I remember the external power supply had to be more than 12.5V or so. Use 13.8V to be sure.

I will try the external power supply and keep you up to date about the progress via this forum.

It works

The external power supply creates no zooming sound, so this is perfect. I tried it with 12V and that's ok. I will try it with 13,8 later, butt I guess it works too. Thanks for the tips.
