PCI MAX2007+ + Booster Vs CYBERMAXFM+

Post by aaditeshwar »

Hi,

I am debating on whether to get a PCI MAX2007+ card with an RDS daughter board, and then boost the signal using the 15W amplifier. Or, get the DSP/RDS Cybermax 15W FM transmitter. Any suggestions on factors that I should keep in mind?

I would also like to run the system on Linux, but it appears that there aren't any Linux drivers for PCI MAX and the RDS board? If I instead use the Cybermax transmitter, is there any way to communicate with the RDS from a Linux PC? The website mentions serial port programming...

A quick reply will be appreciated -- I want to start experimenting soon!

thanks
Adi

Cybermax is of course a much better choice.

First, it is all on one box, less cable mess. DSP stereo encoder in cybermax
is considerably better, so is the RDS encoder.

Of course you also avoid all the problems with drivers that some people
seem to have.

Thanks for the quick reply! Are there any specs on RDS programming of the Cybermax over the RS232 connection? These will be necessary if I access the RDS from a Linux PC instead of the Windows software. I actually also need programmable RDS control to work with an interesting idea I have, of sending certain digital information along with the regular analog transmission to customized FM receivers.

thanks
Adi

PS: Any plans of bringing out Linux drivers for the PCI MAX?

The protocol used to send data to RDS encoder is freely available, of course.
