ANTENNA ASSEMBLY

Post by oneintown »

Hello there

I need someone to really help me - a novice at least to say.
Already I have a broadcasting station on air, mere using a cheap di pole antenna with a 30watts transmitter.
The coverage has been just about two mile.
This I believe that its because of three things, one- my location( the antenna is on 3 storey town hse.
Well my problem now is. I managed to approach a supplier who supplied me 500 watts Booster with a 30 watts Transmitter.
The main problem is, the 4 bay Di-pole that came with my order, but I do not know how to arrange or put the antenna together.
It came with 4 short cables with connectors on it and one long cable i believe that this one will be connected to TX/booster.
Please can you help me on how to put this 4 bar dipole antenna together, as am confused with the cabling.
He told me that the Spacing between the 4 bays should be about 2.8 meters, how possible this is? Because the Space is too much for me.
I need an Antenna that would about the same 1200 watt like the one I have here, this one if there is should be suitable for discreet placement. I dont want the one that would be easily noticable to the public.
Please help me with your recommendations

If he sold antenna to you, he should give you instructions as well.

This one is easy to install:

Please tell me if this will give about or over 1,500watts?
Again is this okay to be used with my 500 watts Booster, using the 30 watts Transmitter.
I understand that the (max capacity of 3/4 Wave Exterminator 3KW Teflon 7/16 DIN is 3kw.
The problem is I dont know the measurement in Watts or KW.
If am right, I guess 3kw is about 30,000watts, right?
If am right, can I use this with my current booster and Transmitter. If am in my current location as discussed in my previous email, what will be my maximum coverage areas in miles
I am not surrounded by tall buildings, not at all.
My plan is to cover up to 30 miles or more.
Please kindly advice me, if the antenna you mentioned here meets my requirements, then I would be interested in ordering (HIGH GAIN COLINEAR ALUMINUM ¾ Wave EXTERMINATOR- 3/4 Wave Exterminator 3KW Teflon 7/16 DIN .
Please in your response, kindly advise me on any other accessories that would be needed if am going for the above antenna.
Many thanks

I think you possibly know too little about these things to install them yourself.
3KW is 3000W.

Antenna does not give anything, it merely radiates what you feed it.
3KW antenna can be driven with 3KW of power, meaning it can be fed
with 1.5KW easily. It can also be fed with 500W.

Whether you use antenna that can withstand 3000W or 10W makes no
difference in range, if you are only using 10W to drive both. However you
need to use a 3KW model for 3KW of power as the 10W model isn't able
to deal with that amount of power.

I suppose you probably have coaxial cable already? How long and what type
is it?

Do you have a SWR/Power meter? Is it CB type?

Thank you for that answer, please dont be offended, I do know little about it though, but am trying.
So that means that I can buy the one mentioned here to be used with my current devices- 30 watts Tx, 500w booster, right?
Yes I have coaxial cable, but I wont mind to go with your recommendations, I do not want to make same mistake getting the wrong stuffs again.
You can just tell me to get, bearing in mind that I have already got 500w booster, a psu, 30w transmitter.
I do not have SWR/Power meter, so I need one?

What I was concerned about was coaxial cable type and length. If it is very long
and of a cheap lossy type, it would mean you are using most of your power to
heat-up that cable. That's why I am asking.

Regarding SWR/Power meter, you should have one handy, if you are going to
deal with antennas and transmitters, and obviously you are :)

Regarding 500W booster, as a novice that you seem to be perhaps it is wise to stay
at 30W for the time being. See how that works for you and after a testing period
proceed with the upgrade.

4-dipole bay, when installed correctly, is a great antenna, but it does take lots
of space. As far as range goes it performs better than the 3/4 wave. But as you
noticed it takes a lot more space.

All I need you to advise on is
1. Can I use the HIGH GAIN COLINEAR ALUMINUM ¾ Wave EXTERMINATOR- 3/4 Wave Exterminator 3KW Teflon 7/16 DIN
to be used with the 500Watts Booster and the Transmitter?
2. The current coverage we gets is nothing to be happy over on the 30watts Transmitte without a booster- its just about 4
or 5 miles at most.

Awaits your advice

1. Yes, of course.

2. Ok, so I see you've been testing it for a while. That's good.

Now that you know that we have been testing this for a while,
What I wanted to ask in my 2nd question of my previous message was that
since we were able to cover just up to 4 to 5 miles, then if we use:
HIGH GAIN COLINEAR ALUMINUM ¾ Wave EXTERMINATOR- 3/4 Wave Exterminator 3KW Teflon 7/16 DIN
with 500 watts booster, will there be an issue at all on this?
So if we use the aboved antenna and able to cover up till 4 to5 miles, then how many possible miles can we
get (coverage)?
Awaits your valued support

This should give you some idea:
http://www.pcs-electronics.com/guide_how.php

In general, it is not easy to give an accurate number, it depends on too many
variables. I say give it a try and you'll see.

Usually it takes 4-6x more power to double the range. So 30x4-30x6 should
double whatever you have now.

Hello again,

We have decided to talk about our intended purchase.
As I have said earlier that we currently have a 30watts Transmitter and a 500 watts booster.
Now if you look into our shopping cart, you will see that we are ready to place order for an Antenna, and 15m coaxial cable.
Here are the details, please review these items and tell us if it is okay with our already purchased items, and we are willing to obtain about 40- 50 miles coverage. Please let us know if this will be acheived with our choice of products:

1. We are buying 15 meter Belden H-500 coaxial cable
2. We also buying 3/4 Wave Exterminator 3KW Teflon 7/16 DIN antenna from you.
3. SWR meter (CN101L DAIWA Power / SWR meter )
Please can we achieve our goals here.
Then please tell me, if we place an order now, how long will it really take to arrive her in London United Kingdom if we are
paying in either paypal, or by Debit Card?
Awaits your precise and valued answers please

If you have a good location for your antenna and favorable terrain configuration this just might work.

If not, you'll have to up the ante by increasing power (so a 3KW antenna leaves your options open)
or mount antenna on a higher tower or move it to a nearby hill.
