Need Help With A Comet Antenna

Post by Polo_Thug »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Followed the advise of some fellow members here on PCS.. While tuning my antenna I run into a few problems....

(1) When I tuning it using the SWR meter I'll get 1.5:1 when touching the antenna, but when i let it go it goes to around 2:1. But its around the lentgh accord to the instruction manual. I drove around and town my reception sucks. And the power output level is around 40 watts.

(2) When tuning the antenna just relying on the SWR meter the best I can acheive is a 2:1 ratio but my reception is better than the above mention situation but with less static. But I get this 2:1 ratio without me touching the antenna .And my power out but is around 55 watts. But the lenght is way off according to the instruction chart.

Now my question is why does it give me a 1.5;1 ratio when touching it and when I let go, it goes back to the SET mark .

Impedance of the antenna changes when you touch it.

Read the other post about SWR meters for "putting out this and
that much power".

I get 1.3 according to my meter. Of course I use really low loss cable.

However the chart is very off, I know most are intended to give you a general idea of what range to tune it, but they should really redo their chart.

It depends a lot where you mount it so its easy for the chart
to be off.

Anyway, if you have SWR meter you don't need a chart, just
move it until its minimal.
