EXTEMINATOR VS slim jim vs Dipole

Post by Periergos »

Dear sirs,
I will make a big test.
I will compare exterminator vs 3/4 vs dipole antenna.

I have the pira 75 band analazyer,
i have one sirio fm dipole, one j pole (by me)
and i just order your exterminator antenna.
I will use RVR exciters ( 2 blues- 1 ptx lcd-) and
I will mesure the power (with bird) after the wire (ecoflex10)
and will check every antenna with my RIG EXPERT ANALYZER.

I will have 20 watt at the same time to 3 antennas.

I will use free for signals frequensies and i will check the signals.

The antennas will be in the same high with no swr.

I will send you the results for this big test.

GOOD LUCK TO EXTERMINATOR ANTENNA.

PS
I BET THAT J POLE (3/4) ANTENNA WILL HAVE THE BEST SIGNAL BUT I HOPE THAT EXTERMINATOR GOES GOOD TOO.

THE TEST WILL BE IN OPEN AREA ( not town )
The distance will be from 200 m to 18 km. (chek with gps & google earth)

Dear sirs, I made the antenna test.

So the exterminator is a good antenna but for long distansies only.

see the test

short distanse (200 m) tx 25m rx 25m
Dipole = 80 db
j pole = 80 db
ext/or = 78 db

short distanse (2 km) tx 25m rx 2m
Dipole = 48 db
j pole = 44 db
ext/or = 38 db

Mid distanse (3 km) tx 25m rx 25 m

Dipole = 60 db
j pole = 58 db
ext/or = 55 db

mid distanse (20 km) tx 25 m rx 250 m

Dipole = > 5 db
j pole = 10 db
ext/or = 12 db

High distanse (30 km) tx 25m rx 45 m (but there was a hill between tx & rx 410 m)
Dipole = NO SIGNAL
j pole = SIGNAL++
ext/or = SIGNAL+++

IF your transmitter is in a hill , USE A DIPOLE (DO NOT USE EXTERMINATOR)
IF your transmitter is in a curve USE J POLLE or EXTERMINATOR (DO NOT USE DIPOLE)
IF you have money, you can take exterminator, but before this, try to use a j pole.

for my location, the best antenna is dipole, but I will use exterminator only for test.
In the future I will use 2 yagis antennas.

Thank you
ps i will send you photos from analyzer

Sounds pretty good actually.

Locally in short-range usually you don't need very strong signal.

One recommendation, if you are on a hill and want to cover area immediately under the hill and not so much far away places, consider horizontal dipole. These are good for covering listeners very close to the hill. Of course with circular dipoles you get the best of both worlds, but a bit less maximum range.
Best regards,

Thank you for your test of the different antenna, your report is interesting but I have several questions.

1). What was the antenna's actual height above ground level when you conducted your tests?

2). During your tests did you take multiple readings in different area's encompassing 360 degrees from the antenna's location?

3). Can you explain how the antenna were mounted, was this on a tower leg or a "pole" ?

4). Do you have the possibility of driving these antenna with higher RF power?

Standard dipoles regardless of make J-Pole/Dipole and so on produce similar omni-directional pattern's, hence your readings for these two antenna are much the same, the Exterminator's design produces a very different radiation take off pattern, if you were able to see the pattern it would appear like a giant umbrella, this "distortion" of the radiated element causes the signal to be "flattened" perpendicular to the horizon, unfortunately this also creates much more "ground effect" hence my question number 1. The Exterminator needs to be at least 70 feet or 21 meter above ground level, installation below this height causes a substantial amount of the antenna's energy to be drawn to the ground, this explains why you discover the further from the antenna the stronger it's signal. We have extensive experience with the Exterminator, when installed correctly it is as good as a 4 x dipole array and in most cases will outperform 4 x dipoles.

If you would like I can e-mail you a series of field tests conducted by our company and several white papers that have been written by respected engineer's in this field showing the true ability of the Exterminator.

Keep up the good work :)

1 - 3

The house was 25m from the level of the sea,
The antennas was on a "pole" , 8 m

2 - 3

Yes,
I use 3 antennas
the first (rx) antenna was a vhf magnet mounted antenna on the roof of my car (RAV 4)
(this antenna had length extension for the fm band - tested with analyzer)
The second was a closed loop dipol - portable
(with this dipole, every time, in every location, i was holding this dipole using a wooden mast, and I was changing polarisations and angles, tryining to find
the best signal)
The third was a small mobile rx antenna from one scanner.

I have not find time to load the tests photos from the test,
