New coax-cable

Post by Jallenbo »

Hi!
I've now decided to move my antenna, and with that I need new coax.
What suggestions do you have?
The length from the transmitter to the antenna will be about 20 metres. I think I will go for the RG213-cable, any objections on that?
The reason I choose RG213 in stead of the H500 is the price.

H500 20m: loss = 0.92dB

Loss= 24%

RG213 20m: loss = 1.56dB

Loss= 43%

Its up to you really. In terms of range the difference is small.

What is the most neat way to have a BNC-connector to these cables? When I use Google, it seems like the PL-259 is often used, and rarely BNC.

Crimp is easiest.

If you must install pl259 and add SO239 to BNC adapter.

I've been comparing the different cable types you have, and I've found out that the TRI-LAN-cable is the best choise for me. Wouldn't it be easier to just take the "Install N male + BNC male" in stead of "Install PL259 + N male"?

You said you wanted PL259 so this is what I suggested. Any combination of connectors
that works for you is fine, too.

What do you think is the best way?
Is for example a RG213 crimp on a Tri-Lan-cable a good way, or is Tri-Lan too thick for RG213 connectors?

1 week ago I made one test for the wires
ecoflex 10 vs RG 213

So see

ecoflex 10, length 10m, N type connectors - frequensy 96,5 MHZ
(With Bird 43 and dummy load Bird 1,5 kw continius)

ECOFLEX 10
power in = 1000 watt
power out = 900 watt
loss = 10 % (10m)

RG 213, length 10m, N type connectors - frequensy 96,5 MHZ
(With Bird 43 and dummy load Bird 1,5 kw continius)

RG 213
power in = 300 watt
power out = 200 watt
loss = 33,3 % (15m)

We are in 2010,

Do not use any more RG213 - RG8 - RG 214.

My opinion is
that , if you want to work in the fm band, use
For low power and low cost (500 watt)
use
aicell 7

for 1 κwatt use
ecoflex 10

H-500 works pretty well for shorter cable runs, handles 750W easily.

For more than that I'd use AirCom plus or cellflex 1/2".

If you have money and your cable is > 10m go with Cellflex.
