more about lightning protection

Post by musicradio1075 »

i have visited many sites regarding antenna grounding for lightning protection, but i've not found any references to effects of lightning on whether the transmitter/antenna are in use or not. My question is this: is there any effect on lightning being more attracted to an antenna that is radiating an rf signal? or put another way, is your transmission equipment better protected if it is shut off? or does it not matter at all? just curious because i usually will turn my transmitter off when there is severe lightning in the area. will having the equipment shut off prevent damage that might occur if it is on? THX!
