Grounding the PCI MAX 2005

Post by evanschuck »

I have just ordered the PCI-MAX 2005, and can't wait to get it. I was previously using the FM25A from Ramsey Electronics. It was a great transmitter, but the power output started to get weaker and weaker until I have no power. Tech support said the following...
The output device could be getting damaged by static shock. You can attach a coil to the RF out to ground. This coil should be made of enameled wire wrapping thirteen turns of the wire around a ¼ inch drill bit. The output device which is now a Gal5 is available through our sales department.
Okay...now that I have officially ordered the PCI-MAX 2005, and will not be trying to revive my old transmitter, do I still need to do this? Will I eventually have the same problem again, but this time with the PCI card from PCS Electronics? What can I do to protect the new transmitter?
Thank you for your help!

It is extremely unlikely or better yet, unpossible. Output
transistor is closely tied to the positive rail supply line,
effectively draining any charge.

Still, a lightning will damage it :)
Best regards,

Thank you very much for the reply. I am relieved that I don't have to worry about this any more. I look forward to getting the new transmitter and going back on the air.
Once again, Thank you.
