Problem with SE6000 AN+

Post by OgreVorbis »

I am having a problem with a too wide carrier using the SE6000 AN+. The problem is definitely the stereo coder because when using the old SE2000, it is much narrower and the volume is even higher. I tried adjusting the pilot level pot with no changes. I can adjust the MPX level on the transmitter to make the carrier the same width as the SE2000, but then it's way too quiet. I also tried to adjust the two blue pots on the back labelled MPX in and MPX level but it doesn't change anything at all. Is this a prototype board that is not fully functional or something because I also notice some modifications on the board? What might be the problem?

Hello Eric,

if the signal is "too wide", as you say (by the way how are you measuring this) the proper way to address this would be to reduce audio level at the exciter (MPX input) and possibly increase stereo pilot a bit if needed.

SE6000 series is definitely better than the 2000 and 5000. Stereo separation is noticeably better for a start.

By the way, all the best in 2016!
Best regards,

When I turn up the MPX level on the exciter with the 6000 so that it reaches the same volume level as the 2000, it looks like this. Something isn't right. The two blue pots don't do anything. I also notice the modulation on the screen of the exciter shows almost full even with no audio input. Both pictures are the same span and are without any modulation.

Can you please help me find the problem? I am using your 7015 exciter and it's very good. I don't want to compromise my signal just because of a bad stereo coder.

Thanks and happy new year!

I will test one of the boards here as soon as I have some free time.

I did some testing finally and could not reproduce the problem.

Low-frequency audio oscillation can look exactly like this on SA screen, I'd take a scope and check for any sign of that if you can't hear it.

E-mail me for more ideas/pointers, if needed.
