what if i cant get it up? ( antenna)

Post by bizr »

ok so i got a 20W transmitter +rds +sterio encoder +limiter , for this setup i bought an indoor telescopic adjustable (tuneable) dipole whoich had a good write up and is matched for 20W,i live in a row of 11 storey flats spaced a couple of hundred yards apart however i,m only on third floor so if i put antena back or front of propety theres obstruction not far away. i,m running about 18" of coax that came with it.the transmitter is tuned however the rf led is dim (like me) my tuner picks me up mono good, sterio abit fuzzy ,in the car downstairs nice and clear, but not sure i,m actully getting out. as ive got all set up in one place i am wary of going on roof and running coax straight into my propety this is a once a week hobby i,m taking a chance on ! so after reading i quess my problems are a,antenna hight b, possibly over modulation (my pal thinks turn everything up is solution).so how do i measure everything i,ve seen swr meters on ebay but for cb do these work? any help here please.kind regards bizr.

Telescopic antenna sounds like total crap.

From what I read above you need a wideband antenna, that won't require any adjustment or SWR meter. Just install it outside away from any metal objects.

Some wideband antennas that you can use and won't need SWR meter:
Directional

Omnidirectional - dipole

Omnidirectional GP

Of course if money is not a problem consider these:

And stay away from any telescopic dipole crap, it may be good for radio reception.

The way you've selected the heading for this thread is ambiguous :)

I mean, Viagra and Cialis might be the solution :))

Well, the higher the antenna the more range you'll have. Height gives lots of extra range.

Also try and keep antenna as far away from various metal objects, if close they can affect the SWR and radiation pattern.

Make sure your antenna handles the power!

How long is long?

RG8 should be plenty good for 20m, do you have more planned?
